Details of New Koi and Quarantine at Richdon Koi
Here at Richdon Koi we pride ourselves in the health of the koi we have to offer.
This year we have built a purpose built Quarantine facility where ALL koi will be placed from our visit’s to Japan this autumn and those we take in 2006.
All koi will be placed in this facility for 2 to 3 weeks minimum at 22c+ before being transferred to our main fish house. NONE of the koi will be for sale during this period and NO ONE will be allowed to view the koi as our strict Bio-security measures will be in force. NOT even our staff and helpers will be allowed to see the newly arrived koi. This is to ensure our already quarantined in stock koi for some 6 months, will not be in contact with new koi arriving at ANY time.
After this 2 to 3 week period the koi will then be transferred to our Main fish house and be available for viewing. However the koi will undergo a further 4 to 5 weeks quarantine period with NO koi being allowed off the site until then. This we feel will ensure customer reassurance and peace of mind when buying our koi.
We have in place strict Bio-security where everyone entering our main facility will go through a Virkon S dip, with a CEFAS approved dry alcohol hand wash facility in place, before any koi are viewed.
All koi ordered prior to our visit, those who buy from our Japan pages and from koi placed on our web site we will also be placing these koi through this quarantine procedure each time we import direct our koi.
This autumn we will not be keeping any koi for those un-heated customers, as we intend to visit Japan and hand select more shipments next year. By following the strict above methods, we do not have the facility to hold koi for up to 6 months as we have done in the past. All we can do is say sorry for this and thank everyone for being understanding.
We also intend to visit Japan four or five times next year to hand select each and every koi. We will not be having any consolidated or blind ordered koi. Each shipment will undergo our strict quarantine procedures ensuring Richdon Koi will be at the forefront of koi bio-security and customer reassurance.
If you have any questions about our procedures please do not hesitate and contact us.
